The Nîmes amphitheater is the best preserved of the Roman world. Although modest in size, it remains elegant and harmonious. Built at the end of the 1st century AD, this amphitheater hosted, among other entertainment, wild animal and gladiator fights. The amphitheater could hold over 23,000 spectators, who were divided according to their social rank along the 34 levels of stands.

The Maison Carrée, inspired by the Temple of Apollo in Rome, attracts visitors with the harmony of its proportions. Built around the year 5 AD in honor of Gaius Caesar and Lucius Caesar, adopted son and grandson of Emperor Augustus, it was part of the forum, economic and administrative heart of the ancient city. It is the only completely preserved temple of the ancient world.

The Magne Tower was built in the 1st century BC. Octagonal in shape, it was the highest and most prestigious tower of the wall surrounding Nîmes. Visible from afar, it signaled the presence of the city, as well as the Sanctuaire Impérial de la Source, located at the foot of the hill. The Imperial Sanctuary of the Source was probably the first place of worship for the area’s earliest inhabitants. The view of Nîmes is remarkable from the top of the tower.
